Freezing temps...Be prepared!

Did you know that your interior pipes can freeze?

Here are some helpful tips:

  1. Locate and insulate pipes in or near exterior walls or unheated interior spaces (attics, basements, garages.)

  2. Locate and exercise shut-off valves leading to the water meter.

  3. Let cold water drip from a faucet served by exposed pipes to prevent freezing during cold snaps.

  4. Keep the heat no lower than 55° F or winterize the pipes if you’re planning to be away during cold weather.

Coffee with the Mayor

Monday, February 17th

Peoria Heights Mayor Michael Phelan will host his “Coffee with the Mayor” at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at Village Hall located at 4901 N Prospect Rd

The public is welcome. Please feel free to come armed with questions.

Fundamentally, the mayor would like to have something of an informal dialogue, a give and take, with local residents regarding whatever issues they may have. How’s it been going in your neighborhood? What do you like about it? What don’t you like? What can the Village be doing to make things better?

Mayor Phelan is happy to address any concern. One topic he’d like to get into is the Village’s major initiative for 2020, the comprehensive plan being conducted with the assistance of Chicago-based urban planning consultant Houseal Lavigne and Peoria architectural firm Farnsworth Group. The mayor very much wants your input about how all of us can contribute to improving the place we call home.

There is no need for pre-registration. Just show up. Hope to see you there!

Recent Water Issue

Thank you to the resident and business that called to alert the Water Department of discolored water in the St Thomas School area. This helped to identify unauthorized use of a fire hydrant in that immediate area. Hydrant use causes the system to become stirred up and results in temporarily discolored water for neighboring areas. There is no health or safety hazard with this condition. If you notice this at your home, allow your water to run for a few minutes to help flush the system. Do not do any laundry while the water is still discolored as it may stain clothing.

As always, please call the water department if you notice anything out of the ordinary. Thank you! 309-686-2375.
